‘An Early V-Day Present' — Thousands Attend San Francisco Giants' FanFest

AT&T Park was a sea of orange and black Sunday.

Valentine's Day came a day early for thousands of San Francisco Giants fans who flocked to FanFest, lured by the opportunity to meet some of their favorite baseball players and get their autograph.

Lines were snaking along the Embarcadero even before the gates opened at 10 a.m. Fans of all ages showed up to catch a glimpse of the 2014 World Series champs, hopeful that this will be another lucky year for the team.

Hunter Pence, Buster Posey, Sergio Romo, George Kontos and Matt Duffy could be seen signing autographs and giving interviews to media. Giants' Coach Bruce Bochy announced that Madison Bumgarner — or MadBum as his fans call him — will start on Opening Day.

The assignment, coming April 4 in Milwaukee, will be the third straight for Bumgarner. He will be followed in some order by Johnny Cueto, Jeff Samardzija, Jake Peavy and Matt Cain.

Players lauded the offseason additions while taking the stage at FanFest.

Posey said he was excited to see the pitching additions, adding: "They seem like great fits. They'll make us better, they'll make us a lot better."

KNBR’s Kate Scott interview players, coaches and other team staff.

Fans, one of whom proposed to his girlfriend, were also able to ask players their own questions. Many fans explored the press box, locker rooms and the dugout — areas that are usually off limits during game days.

Some were unhappy with the long lines, and tweeted that they had tp wait up to four hours tto get an autograph.
