San Francisco Is Nation's Second-Smartest City (In a Tie)

Fast Company thinks very highly of San Francisco thinking.

San Francisco is No. 2 -- for smarts, that is.

The City By the Bay is tied with Boston for the nation's second-brainiest burg, according to Fast Company.

Seattle, thanks to its own technology sector, 1,000 open data sets, and fourth-best "entrepreneurial ecosytem... in the world" all earned the rainy Washington town top marks.

Boston is tied with San Francisco for second place, in large part due to the Hub's 70 colleges and universities. That's a whole lot of learning.

San Francisco holds down its No. 2 spot -- it was first runner-up last year as well -- thanks to efforts like Mayor Ed Lee's office "dedicated to civic innovation," as well as the city's 302 "LEED certified buildings."

Having Twitter around also counts for something!
