San Francisco Police Officer Charged with Assaulting Woman

The officer is accused of pushing a woman at a nightclub, who fell and suffered a 1-inch cut on her head.

A San Francisco police officer is facing charges that he assaulted a woman while off-duty at a Union Square nightclub.

Prosecutors told the San Francisco Chronicle on Friday that 29-year-old Richard Soares was booked into County Jail on felony assault and misdemeanor battery charges.

Soares is accused of pushing a woman he was dating at a Jan. 7 birthday party at Slide nightclub. According to prosecutors, the woman said she fell and suffered a 1-inch cut on the back of her head.

Soares has been placed on unpaid leave from the department.
