San Francisco Ranked No. 2 Bike Friendly City in America

San Francisco is officially the second best bike friendly city in the country; according to a recent report form Bicycling.

The study examines over 100 cities across the United States to identify the top 50 bike-friendly towns. During the process, researchers look at everything from miles of bike lanes to the number of cyclist friendly bars.

Over the past four years, the city by the bay has added many miles of “new and high quality cycling facilities, and has seen a resulting surge in ridership," according to a report from Bicycling.

But that’s not all that San Francisco has done to be named the second top bicycling city in the country; since 2015, the city has implemented over 800 new bike racks and there are plans to add raised and protected bike lanes on Second Street in 2017.

According to Chris Cassidy, communications director of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, the improvements will turn the corridor from a “traffic sewer, into a dream.”

At this rate, San Francisco will have the densest bike share networks – 4,500 bikes in the city and over 7,000 across the region.
