San Francisco Supervisor David Campos is announcing today that he will run for state Assembly.
Campos, who represents San Francisco's District 9, which includes the Mission, is seeking to replace Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who is being termed out of office next year.
If Campos wins the seat, it would be the second time he followed in the footsteps of Ammiano, who served as District 9 supervisor before being elected to the state Assembly in 2008.
Campos immigrated to the U.S. from Guatemala as a 14-year-old and graduated from Stanford University and Harvard Law School before entering public service, first as a San Francisco deputy city attorney in 1999, then as a police commissioner before being elected supervisor in 2008.
Campos is announcing his candidacy this morning by meeting with supporters at 11 a.m. and 24th and Mission streets and then taking a Muni bus to City Hall to file his paperwork.
