San Jose Airport About to “Take Off”

The airport in San Jose has waited years for take-off, but may finally be turning the corner.

Over the past several years Mineta San Jose International spent hundreds of millions of dollars remodeling its terminals, but despite the upgrades airlines simply weren't adding flights.

Now there are signs the investment may be paying off.

SJC says its good news all the way around.

The airport's largest carrier, Southwest Airlines says it will add 4 more daily flights to its service out of San Jose with flights to LA, Denver, Seattle, and Orange County.

“Southwest is telling us that their passenger bookings are actually strong, and it's time to expand here,” airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said.

Al Nipon Airways is one of two carriers who added San Jose as a destination this year. So has Virgin America.

The airport says ridership has been higher every month this year. SJC hopes other airlines take note of Southwest's actions, and compete to bring more money to airport and city coffers.
