San Jose: Big-Rig, 7 Other Vehicles Involved in I-280 Crashes

Eight vehicles were involved in several crashes on southbound Interstate Highway 280 in San Jose Wednesday, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

An incident involving a big-rig crashing into a light pole on I-280 just north of Meridian Avenue was reported at 4:34 p.m., according to CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt.

A Sig-alert was issued at 5:38 p.m. There are reports of heavy southbound traffic, according to the CHP.

As many as seven other vehicles were involved in subsequent collisions. There are at least three separate crashes in the area, according to the CHP.

At least one injury has been reported, Van Eckhardt said.

The CHP has shut down the Meridian Avenue off-ramp on southbound I-280 and the Moorpark Avenue on-ramp for northbound motorists, Van Eckhardt said.
