The San Jose City Council on Tuesday  presented a commendation to Olympic figure skater Polina Edmunds for her "outstanding work" representing her hometown of San Jose "and the United States" at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Councilman Pete Constant noted that she was not only an "incredible athlete," but a model student. The 15-year-old sophomore at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, came in 9th place in women's figure skating, and she did all her homework.

"She is a model student," Constant said at the council meeting. "She never asked for any special treatment. We know that our country is incredibly proud of her. You brought San Jose to the world spotlight."

At the meeting, Polina accepted her plaque and said it was "such a great honor to represent San Jose at the Sochi games." She also thanks Sharks Ice Rink where she trains, her high school, and her dance studio, Dance Theatre International for all their "help in my skating."

Then she thanked the entire Bay Area for "their belief in me and all their support."

After she came home, Polina told NBC Bay Area she's ready for the next Olympic Winter Games in 2018.

"I'm definitely going to be working really hard these next four years building myself up for Korea," she said.
