San Jose Earthquakes Fans Arrested For Oregon Assault

A pair of San Jose Earthquakes have been arrested by U.S. Marshals for attacking a Portland Timbers fan in April, according to reports.

Jennifer Marques, 29, and Uriel Vargas, 21, were arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail for attacking a Timbers fan in his car on April 14 in Portland, according to The Oregonian.

The pair were part of a group of San Jose fans heading to Portland's Jeld-Wen Field who approached the car of James Decker, 40, at about 5:30 p.m. that day before a game between San Jose and the Portland Timbers, according to police.

When Decker raised his "Timbers Army" scarf towards the fans and shouted, "a woman reached through the car window, yelling at him" and tried to grab his scarf, according to the newspaper.

A group of about a dozen men then raced towards Decker's car. He was punched twice, one through the window and the other after opening the passenger door.

He refused medical attention, and could not find any suspects that day while searching with police.

It's not yet clear how the pair were identified by police, but more arrests could be forthcoming as more suspects have been identified, the newspaper reported.

For those keeping score, San Jose lost to Portland that day, 1-0.

San Jose Earthquakes management have also had a tough time keeping a lid on its fans.
