San Jose Family Injured in Jet Ski Crash

Three members of a San Jose family were hospitalized after their jet skis collided in Lake Tahoe on Monday.

Sufian and Subia Kazmi and their children were riding rented jet skis about a quarter-mile off of Timber Cove Beach when the  accident happened around 9:45 a.m., South Lake Tahoe police said.

Subia Kazmi had the couple's a 9-year-old daughter riding behind  her on one jet ski, and Sufian Kazmi, 35, had their 5-year-old son with  him on another, police said.

They had been riding the two jet skis for about half an hour  when the front of the father's craft struck the side of the mother's while both were going about 30 mph, police said.

The family was rescued by employees at the nearby Timber Cove  Marina, where they had rented the watercraft, and brought back to the marina  in two boats.

The son and mother were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital with head and leg injuries. The mother's leg was broken, police said.

The daughter was flown to Reno, Nev., to be treated for serious injuries to her leg and foot, including a compound fracture and possibly a  severed toe, police said.

The injuries are not considered life-threatening. The father was  not hurt.

The family had not had any previous experience operating personal  watercraft, but were wearing lifejackets, police said.
