After years of hanging out informally on campus, a cat has been made an official member of the student body at San Jose's Leland High School.

The orange and white feline, whose name is Bubba, lives nearby but prefers to spend his waking hours at Leland and neighboring Bret Harte Middle School. His school-issued student ID lets administrators and hall monitors know he belongs.

Bubba has his own Facebook page and a marked demand to be more active online.

"People want me to get him on Instagram," Bubba's owner Amber Marienthal told the San Jose Mercury News. "I only have so much time to devote to my cat's social life."

Marienthal told the publication that she would like to see Bubba included in 2017 graduation so he can be with the students who have enjoyed his company since they were in junior high.

Waiting for my peeps.

Exhausted after my 36 hour long "stay" inside a classroom. Luckily I meow like a lion and the security guy heard me!
