San Jose Man Dies in Deep-Water Dive

A 22-year-old San Jose man drowned Thursday morning while SCUBA diving at a state beach in Carmel by the Sea.

Correy Randall Fedor was diving with two others in the ocean off of Monastery Beach, part of Carmel River State Beach around 10:30 a.m. when he lost contact with his partners, according to the Monterey County coroner's office.

The two other divers found Fedor floating on the surface and called 911, according to the coroner's office.

Fedor was pulled out of the water by emergency responders who shortly thereafter pronounced him dead.

All three men were highly-experienced divers. One of the three owns Any Water Sports diving shop in San Jose and Fedor and the other diver also worked, the Monterey Herald reported.

Fedor's Facebook page says he was a student at UC Santa Cruz and graduated from Santa Teresa High School in 2005. He listed his activities as "big time scuba diving" and rock climbing.

The drowning is under investigation.
