Local soldier was remembered in a tribute video.

A 21-year-old soldier from San Jose died Wednesday in Afghanistan.

California Natinal Guard Spc. Sean M. Walsh died in Khost Province of "injuries sustained after encountering indirect fire," the Department of Defense announced Friday.

Walsh served in the 185th Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade based in Pittsburg.

Walsh's friend posted a tribute video for Walsh under the YouTube username ChavelaSalazar. Watch the video here.

"We lost a great soldier and gained an Angel," ChavelaSalazar wrote. "SPC Walsh was doing what he had grown to love best while on our deployment, Rucking in gear, weapon in hand! Only days for our return! We will fight this battle until the end, for you Pikachu! Rest in Peace..."

Nearly 6,300 U.S. service members have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are almost 30,000 veterans currently living in the Bay Area.
