A man suspected of shooting two Fremont police officers last week died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office coroner report.

Gerald Villabrille died Thursday after he barricaded himself inside of a burning home in Fremont. His death came after an overnight standoff with Alameda County Sheriff's deputies and Fremont police.

What prompted Villabrille, who has a criminal history, to allegedly shoot two officers on Wednesday afternoon in two separate incidents has not yet been revealed.

One of the two wounded officers was left in critical condition, the other is stable, police said.
