The man accused of driving drunk and killing a 19-year-old Gavilan College basketball player turned himself into police Monday. Dennis Leffew, 43, from San Jose is charged with vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence.

Police arrested Leffew on Nov. 6 after his car hit Andrel Gaines on Highway 101 in Millbrae. Gaines and his friends were on their home to Gilroy from a San Francisco nightclub, when the driver the car he was riding in swerved to miss a tire and hit the center divider. Police say Leffew then slammed into car with his Nissan 300 ZX.

Gaines suffered critical injuries and doctors took him off life support two weeks after the collision.  Leffew is being held on $250,000 bond.
