The father of a 25-year-old man who survived a week in the urban wildnerness after his pickup crashed in San Jose, said it's a "miracle" his son is alive.

Mike Sanchez spoke to NBC Bay Area on Thursday, two days after his son -- Michael Sanchez Jr. -- was found in the thick brushes near Hellyer Avenue and Highway 101 in South San Jose near Hellyer County Park.

On Thursday, Sanchez the father said his son was unconscious in the intensive care unit at Regional Medical Center with brain injuries. His father added that his son is on life support.

Now the family is left questioning what happened to Sanchez Jr., and Andrew Hill High School graduate, in the seven days he was missing.

Sanchez Jr. had left for work on May 7, but never showed up at a funeral on May 10, his family said. His family reported him missing to San Jose police, and authorities starting looking the next day.

On Monday, the California Highway Patrol learned that Sanchez Jr.'s 1991 Ford Ranger pickup had crashed on May 8 near Hellyer Avenue and Highway 101 in South San Jose.

Witnesses told police they saw a man climb out of the truck and leave. Crews searched for Sanchez Jr., and finally found him Tuesday about 6 p.m. in a wooded area, hidden from the roadway.

No one knows how Sanchez Jr. survived, or if he had anything to eat or drink during that time.

All his family knows is that he is on life support at the hospital, and they are frustrated that it took so long to find him.
