San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo Pushes Program to Put Troubled Teens Into Summer Jobs

San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo is pushing a new program to keep troubled teens out of gangs and put them into summer jobs.

The County of Santa Clara has already committed $1 million to the program.  Microsoft has committed $25,000. Target and Lowe's have pledged to hire hundreds of teens.

The program will focus on those living in gang-impacted areas.

"We know that if we have a teen whose got nothing to do in the summertime, we've got trouble on our hands," Liccardo said. "We need to ensure that we can keep kids involved in school, in sports, or in jobs."

The city program is expected to go through the summer. Funding for a fall program is also being proposed.
