San Jose Police Investigating Fatal Stabbing

A woman was fatally stabbed in San Jose Thursday, marking the city's 16th homicide of the year.

At about 5 p.m. police received a report of a person stabbed in the 3800 block of Canyon Ridge Drive. Responding officers found a woman inside a resident suffering from at least one stab wound.

"Anytime someone gets stabbed, there’s a lot of blood. So yeah, the scene was not pretty," Lt. Jason Dwyer said. "The person died violently. Now it’s the detective’s job to make sure there’s justice for the victim.”

Police said the victim was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

A man suspected of the stabbing was arrested at the scene without incident. Police said the man was also one of two people who called 911 to report the stabbing.

Investigators are working on a motive and trying to determine the suspect and the woman's relationship. Detectives also said the suspect may have previously lived at the residence where the woman was found.

"We have enough evidence to rule out that this was a random attack," Dwyer said.

Police also said a knife was recovered at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
