The victim was shot in the neck after catching up with and confronting the man who stole her car, authorities said.

A 17-year-old girl was shot while trying to retrieve her stolen car late Monday in San Jose, police said.

The shooting was reported after 7 p.m. when a male suspect jumped into the teen's car in the Almaden Lake Park area and drove off, police said.

The girl, who had left her vehicle's engine running, was in her friend's car during the incident. The group then chased after the suspect, police said.
