San Jose Police Arrest Man, Woman Who Allegedly Drove Car at Officer, Hit Occupied Police Cruiser

Police have arrested a man and a woman who allegedly drove a carat a police officer and then struck an occupied patrol car Sunday evening,police said.

Officers conducting a yard-to-yard search located the two suspects around 9:45 p.m. in the backyard of a home on McLaughlin Avenue, police said.Police said the suspects' identities would not be released.

Police had asked residents in the area of Tully Road, McLaughlin Avenue and Sherlock Drive to stay inside their homes while officers canvassed the neighborhood.

Officers first began searching for the two suspects after members of the department's gang suppression unit tried to stop a vehicle in the area of Story Road and McLaughlin Avenue around 6:30 p.m., according to police. Police said the driver drove at an officer who was standing outside in an apparent attempt to hit the officer.

The officer was able to move out of the way and tried to follow the car but police said the officer ultimately lost sight of the vehicle.

Officers on patrol spotted the car in the area of Tully Road and McLaughlin Avenue, police said.

The driver allegedly struck an occupied police cruiser and continued driving before both suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot.Police blocked road traffic in the area while conducting the
search and asked residents to stay inside.

As of around 10 p.m., police said roads would be reopened and residents would be allowed to leave their homes.
