San Jose's First Homicide Victim of 2012 was not Gang Member

The 25-year-old was shot around 8:30 p.m. Thursday as he was standing in his East San Jose driveway.

Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in East San Jose on Thursday night as 25-year-old Ricardo Lucas.

Lucas was shot around 8:30 p.m. as he was standing in the driveway of his home in the 200 block of Alexander Avenue, police said.

He was taken to Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead around 9 p.m.

No suspects have been identified and the motive is unknown, although police said they are exploring the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.

Lucas was not affiliated with any gangs, police said.

The shooter, who may have been accompanied by other suspects, fled in a white Toyota Camry or similar type of vehicle, according to police.

Lucas's death is the city's first homicide of the year.
