One firefighter was injured in a second-alarm fire at a taqueria in downtown San Leandro early this morning, according to an Alameda County fire chief.
Reports of heavy smoke at the restaurant Tequila Grill located at 1350 E. 14th St. near Estudillo Avenue were received at approximately 2:07 a.m., Alameda County Fire Department Battalion Chief Ron Figuera said.
Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the taqueria upon arrival, Figuera said.
The fire was upgraded from a one-alarm fire with 21 firefighters responding to a two-alarm fire with a total of 33 firefighters responding at the height of the fire, Figuera said.
Figuera said the fire may have started in a dumpster behind the restaurant, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The fire was under control by 2:45 a.m., Figuera said.
The injured firefighter was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover, Figuera said.
