The San Mateo Sheriff's Office held a symposium geared exclusively toward women.
The event offered an up-close look at what deputies do and how they train.
Women from various walks of life were invited in the hopes of possibly bringing a few onboard.
"We thought this was a cross-section of the population that perhaps reaching out to educate that this could be a good opportunity, a good profession for you, might be worth our while," sheriff's office spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt said.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office already has numerous women in its ranks, including its assistant sheriff.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, women make up about 13 percent of officers nationwide.
