Around 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon, San Mateo Police and Fire responded to the Hilton Gareden Inn, at 2000 Bridgepointe Circle, after receiving a report of a fatality in a room with possible chemical exposure.
The responding personnel discovered a deceased female in the room, and evidence of an unidentified exposure incident.
The hotel room was secured and nearby rooms were evacuated. A HAZMAT team was also called to the scene, due to the unknown substance.
It was determined that there was no public danger or exposure.
The incident is being investigated as an apparent suicide. There are no signs of foul play, officials said in a press release.
Portions of the hotel will remain closed while authorities continue to investigate.
