Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo Might Be Bought By Casino

A San Pablo hospital is for sale, and the most likely buyer is the casino next door, according to reports.

The Contra Costa Timesreports that Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo is getting ready to close or at least cut down service significantly, and in so doing, it's putting its hospital property up for sale.

The Lytton Tribe's San Pablo Casino just rented the hospital's back parking lot for $4.6 million and is always looking to expand. And the casino is interested in banking on the hospital building, the newspaper reported.

The tribe might not host gambling if it does buy the property, according to the newspaper, which notes that it also owns office buildings.

The hospital stopped taking emergency room patients via ambulance visits in August and now there's no more than 30 patients being served at any one time, according to officials.

The county is being asked to help save the building as a hospital but there are no solutions yet.
