Marin Sheriff's Office ID's Third Novato Homicide Suspect

The Marin County Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning identified a third suspect investigators are seeking in the killing of a Novato High School student last week.

Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant in San Mateo on Wednesday for 19-year-old Javier Guevara, who should be considered armed and dangerous and is a known member of the MS-13 gang, sheriff's officials said. He is a relative of one of the other suspects already in custody, officials said.

Two Novato High School students were charged Tuesday with the murder of Edwin Josue Ramirez Guerra, 17, of San Rafael. They are being charged as adults.

Juan Carlos Martinez Henriquez, 17, and Edwin Guevara, 16, were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday for premeditated murder of Ramirez Guerra and the attempted murder of another Novato High School student while lying in wait on May 25.

A prosecutor said Wednesday one of the suspects used a machete in the attack while an accomplice used a gun.

The victims were found at the end of Fairway Drive in Novato around 5:30 p.m. after the surviving teen called 911.

Ramirez Guerra was shot and the other student was shot and stabbed but survived.

Javier Guevara is wanted in another assault case pending in Marin County court, according to the DA's office.

"That case is a battery with severe bodily injury that also has a gang enhancement attached to that," said Chief Deputy District Attorney Dori Ahana.

A fourth defendant, Elmer Fernando Machado-Rivera, 20, of San Rafael, was charged with being an accessory to the murder by harboring or concealing Martinez Henriquez.
