San Ramon Navy Reservist Wins Fantasy 5 Lottery

A Navy reservist from San Ramon has been pretty lucky lately. He returned home last month from a tour in Afghanistan just in time for the holidays.

And then, on Tuesday, he won enough money in the Fantasy 5 California lottery game - nearly $200,000 - to buy everyone Christmas presents, and then some.

As is his custom, Alfredo Jauregui bought five Fantasy 5 tickets on Monday but didn’t win.

The next day, lottery officials said he saw that no one else had won either and that the top prize had rolled. So he bought five more tickets.

That night, he went bowling and heard that someone from San Ramon had won the top prize. His wife, an eternal optimist, she said: “I have a feeling it’s us.”

She was right. The couple had won half of the $391,894 top prize, netting them $195,947.

Jauregui told lottery officials that he plans to pay off debt, buy a new car, help his family and save the rest for their future family.

He purchased his winning ticket at the Fast & Easy Mart located at 2820 Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon.
