Police ordered a brief lockdown Tuesday at San Ramon Valley High School in Danville after a student allegedly threatened violence against a schoolmate.
In a statement, Police Chief Steve Simpkins said officers were dispatched to the school at 11:19 a.m. after a School Resource Officer learned of the threat.
Danville town spokesman Geoff Gillette said the lockdown at the school at 501 Danville Blvd. lasted from around 11:30 a.m. to 12:02 p.m.
"We had reason to believe that the threat against the student was credible enough to warrant the district placing the school on lockdown," Simpkins said. "In a situation of that sort, it is best to be cautious."
During the lockdown, police searched for the student who was responsible for the threat, according to Simpkins. The 16-year-old Alamo resident, who was located off-campus at 12 p.m. and detained, was not carrying any weapons, he said.
"We appreciate the patience and support of the community as we resolved this situation as safely and quickly as possible," Simpkins said. "I cannot stress strongly enough that the safety of our youth is of paramount importance to us."
