A San Ramon man was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly driving his sports utility vehicld into a 72-year-old woman who later died, police said.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Bollinger Canyon Road and Canyon Lakes Drive in San Ramon at 7 p.m., according to police. Witnesses told police they saw a red Ford Explorer strike the women and then race off.

Witnesses identified the driver as Justin Stubblefield as the owner of the SUV, police said. Stubblefield, who was on probation and had an open arrest warrant for burglary, was arrested shortly afterward on charges of vehicular manslaughter, probation violations, hit-and run and driving with a suspended license.

The woman was treated  at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, but she died about three hours after the collission, police said. The Contra Costa County Coroner has not yet identified the woman.

The case is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Ramon Police Department at 925-973-2700.
