Sand Tunnel Collapse Traps Teen in Bodega Bay

A Northern California teenager on a trip to the beach with her family nearly died this weekend when a sand tunnel collapsed on top of her.

The incident was reported at Bodega Bay's Doran Beach around 6:45 p.m. Saturday.

The Press Democrat is reporting the 17-year-old, from Sacramento, was buried under the sand for at least two minutes before she could be freed by family members and bystanders. She reportedly stopped breathing but was revived after she was given CPR.

The girl was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Her condition is not known.

On June 25 a Danville teenager was buried by a sand tunnel at Sunset Beach in Watsonville.  Ryan Buchanan was under the sand for 10-15 minutes before being rescued. His father said last week doctors fear Ryan will be in a vegetative state for the rest of his life.
