Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian has taken up the fight to save what most people see as the final area of affordable housing in Palo Alto.
The county is working with the Caritas Corporation, a non-profit mobile home park operator, to purchase the Buena Vista Mobile Home Park.
"My hope and expectation is Caritas working with the county will be able to negotiate a market rate purchase of the park from the current owners," Simitian said.
Buena Vista Park's current owners said the land is not for sale. In addition, the owners said they still intend to redevelop the property.
If the park closes, about 400 residents will be evicted and will have to find housing elsewhere.
The Palo Alto City Council at its May 26 meeting is scheduled to vote on a relocation package for the tenants.
