Santa Clara Elementary School Lockdown on 1st Day of Class

A lockdown ordered Monday after a threatening phone call during the first day of classes at a Santa Clara elementary school was lifted about an hour later, authorities said.

Police had placed John D. Sutter Elementary School at 3200 Forbes Ave. on lockdown around 8:30 a.m. and ended it at about 9:30 a.m., an employee working in the school's office said.

The school received a threatening phone call, prompting Santa Clara police to order the lockdown. Officers lifted it after
finding no credible threats to the campus, police Lt. Kurt Clarke said.

The Police Department has posted an officer at the school for the rest of the school day and parents have the option to take their children home for the day, Clarke said.

The lockdown occurred on the first day of classes for the new school year, Santa Clara Unified School District spokeswoman Jennifer Dericco said.
