Santa Clara Marine Dies in Afghanistan

A 21 year old Marine from Santa Clara was killed in Afghanistan. Lance Cpl. Harry Lew was killed Sunday during combat operations. Lew's friends remember him well at Santa Clara High school.

A Marine who graduated from Santa Clara High School just three years ago has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Monday Lance Cpl. Harry Lew of Santa Clara, died over the weekend while supporting combat operations in the Helmand province.

The Defense Department did not say how Lew died other than to say that the incident was under investigation.

Lew was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

He was a 2008 graduate of Santa Clara high.  People at the school said they remembered him well. His interests included hip hop music and break dancing.
