Santa Clara Mayor Welcomes Panthers, Broncos to City

In a video posted on the city’s website, Jamie L. Matthews extended a warm welcome to the two teams playing in Super Bowl 50.

The Mayor of Santa Clara wasted no time welcoming the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers – the two NFL teams headed to the Super Bowl – to the city.

In a video posted on the city’s website, Jamie L. Matthews extended a warm welcome to the two teams. The mayor, clad in sunglasses and suit and tie, also encouraged visitors to check out Santa Clara restaurants, shops, museums and parks while in the area.

“We look forward to hosting both teams and all their fans for the golden anniversary right here in the city of Santa Clara,” Matthews said.

The city itself has also been busy preparing for the big game, with planned parties stretching down the Peninsula.

The Plaza de Cesar Chavez, right in front of the Fairmont Hotel, is being turned into an outdoor café and beer garden.

The parties, say organizers, will be perfect for those who wish to join in on the festivities but couldn’t get their hands on a ticket.

Brokers are predicting that this may be one of the most expensive Super Bowls in history. Average ticket prices have hiked up to $5,335. Just five years ago, tickets to see the Green Bay Packers face off against Pittsburgh Steelers came in at around $3,500.
