Santa Clara Police Shoot, Kill DUI Suspect

A DUI stop turned deadly in Santa Clara

A 42-year-old man was fatally shot by a Santa Clara police officer  during a DUI investigation on Saturday night.

The suspect, a Santa Clara man, was pulled over by a uniformed  officer in the 2400 block of Karen Drive at about 9:45 p.m., according to  Santa Clara police.

During the stop, the man became uncooperative and the officer  requested assistance, police said.

Before additional officers arrived at the scene, the man apparently reached for a revolver in his vehicle, police said.

The officer, who police said had been on the force for two years, shot the man in self-defense,  police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The revolver was later determined to be loaded.

Police did not release the suspect's identity on Sunday morning.

The incident is being investigated by the police department and  the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.
