Stabbing Suspect in Custody Following Standoff in Santa Clara

A stabbing suspect was taken into police custody late Tuesday following a nearly four-hour standoff in Santa Clara.

Lt. Kurt Clarke said the suspect stabbed someone at the 3500 block of Agate Drive. The victim has non-life threatening injuries and has been transported to a hospital, according to Clarke.

Police initially responded to the scene at 6:50 p.m. and spent hours trying to get the suspect to come out of an apartment. Dozens of residents were displaced from their apartments and homes during the standoff.

A SWAT team was also called to the scene. Tear gas was used to help get the suspect out of the apartment.
