Santa Rosa Police Report Attempted Kidnapping of Girl at Elementary School

Santa Rosa police said a man tried to kidnap a female elementary school student on school grounds Thursday evening.

Police were dispatched at 6 p.m. to the Kawana Elementary School at 2121 Moraga Drive where the alleged kidnapping occurred, Sgt. Robert Reynolds said.

The girl was attending an after-school event and asked to use the restroom on the west side of the campus. She saw a man standing near the restroom who contacted her as she was leaving, Reynolds said.

The man grabbed the girl's wrist and tried to take her against her will, but she broke free and ran. The suspect was last seen getting into an older model, light brown 4-door sedan with a broken driver's window, Reynolds said.

The vehicle left the school parking lot and headed north on Moraga Drive, Reynolds said.

Police searched the area but did not find the suspect or vehicle.

The suspect is a white man, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build. He was dirty in appearance and was wearing a white tank top and blue jeans, Reynolds said.
