Santa Rosa Substitute Teacher Arrested on Lewd Acts Suspicion

A substitute teacher in Santa Rosa was arrested Monday on suspicion of inappropriately touching at least two middle school-aged students last week, according to Santa Rosa police.

Santa Rosa resident Thomas Joseph Weber, 69, was taken into custody at the police department and booked into Sonoma County jail on two counts of lewd acts on a child, police said.

At 1 p.m. Friday, officers responded to Jack London Elementary School on reports of a substitute teacher touching at least two middle school-aged female students over their clothing, police said. The school staff provided officers the information the students relayed.

Officers also learned once officials with the Piner-Olivet Union School District were made aware of the allegation, they sent Weber home and told him there was enough staffing for the day.

Detectives from Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Team took over and through their investigation over the weekend determined the incidents occurred Thursday, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Detective Boehm at 707-543-3595.
