Search for East Bay Teens at Reservoir Turns Into Recovery Effort

The search at a Stanislaus County reservoir for two Oakland boys who went into the water Saturday afternoon has turned into a recovery effort, authorities said Sunday.

Dive teams searched the entire Woodward Reservoir on Sunday to no avail. It is believed the 15-year-old boys, who were not wearing life jackets, drowned.

Stanislaus County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Anthony Abejaran said the dive team searched in murky water Sunday, with visibility of only about two to three feet. The water in the area is 14 to 18 feet deep.

The two boys were cousins and were on a boat with relatives when they decided to jump in the reservoir, along with other family members. Deputies received a 911 call just before noon Saturday to report the boys missing.

A slew of teams were deployed Saturday to help find the boys, including dive teams and sonar equipment, according to sheriff's officials.

Woodward Reservoir is east of Stockton and just north of Oakdale.

The initial Saturday search was called off around 9 p.m.
