Second Time in 2 Days, Person Killed on Train Track

A person was struck and killed on Caltrain tracks in Burlingame Thursday afternoon, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

Service has been interrupted, and commuters are advised to expect  significant delays. Giants fans taking the train to tonight's game should  make other arrangements, she said.

This is the second time in two days a person has been struck and  killed by a train in Burlingame.

Today's incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. near Bellevue Avenue  when a pedestrian was hit by southbound Baby Bullet train No. 362.

On Wednesday, a man was struck at Peninsula Avenue at about 12:20  p.m., about half a mile from where the person was hit today. Wednesday's  death appears to have been a suicide, Dunn said.

Today's death marks the ninth fatality on Caltrain right-of-way  this year. Last year, 11 people died on Caltrain tracks.

As of 5 p.m., there was no Caltrain service between the Millbrae  and Hillsdale stations. A bus bridge was being set up along that stretch.

BART and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority are  honoring Caltrain tickets.
