Security Breach at SJ Airport Delays Flights

Authorities say hundreds of passengers at Mineta San Jose International Airport were delayed after a woman entered a secure area without being screened.

The security breach occurred in Terminal B around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Airport officials tell the San Jose Mercury News the 22-year-old woman was waiting for a flight when she left the secure area and returned without being screened again.

It did not appear she was carrying anything illegal.

San Jose police cited and released her for allegedly violating an airport security checkpoint. She has not been identified.

The breach led to the evacuation and rescreening of hundreds of passengers, who were left stranded in the baggage claim area for about two hours.

At least eight Southwest Airlines flights were delayed.
