Accused Serial Bank Robber 'Bad Beard Bandit' Arrested

Surveillance video of the Bad Beard Bandit.

A man from Half Moon Bay is behind bars Saturday night, accused of robbing eight banks in Northern and Central California.

The suspect had a dark beard, which police later determined to be fake. Police dubbed him "The Bad Beard Bandit."

Surveillance photos of the getaway car eventually led FBI agents to a suspect. He was arrested at his Half Moon Bay home.

Gerardo Lopez is being held on a number of charges related to the string of bank robberies.

The FBI said he hit banks in Sunnyvale, San Jose, Dublin, Capitola and four other Central Valley cities.
