Santa Cruz Services Bring Back Memories for Vallejo Officer

Alan Caragan was reminded of a fallen Vallejo officer

Thousands of mourners packed HP Pavilion in San Jose to say their final farewell to two fallen Santa Cruz police officers, Sgt. Det. Loren "Butch" Baker and Det. Elizabeth Butler.

That service brought back sad memories to Vallejo police officer Alan Caragan.

"It brings back the memories of that day and everything that proceeded it,” Caragan said.

For Alan Caragan, that day was Nov. 17, 2011. The day Vallejo police officer James Capoot was shot and killed while chasing a bank robbery suspect.

"People don’t realize right after the incident we still have to press on with our duty,”  Caragan said.

Caragan, a 19-year-veteran of the Vallejo police department, was hired around the same time as Capoot and they worked side by side for three years.

The funeral service for Baker and Butler reminded him of how proud he is to be a police officer.

"We’re always close, but in times like this, you see what the law enforcement family is made of,” Caragan said.
