Shark Sighting in Pacifica, Officials Say Beware

A shark was spotted off the coast of the Pacifica on Thursday, according to police.

The shark was seen about 80 yards off the shore of Linda Mar Beach around noon, making this at least the second Bay Area shark sighting within the past month. People had previously reported a shark circling a group of young surfers along the coast of the Pacifica during the third week of June.

No injuries have been reported for either incident, but police have asked beachgoers to be aware of their surroundings and be careful in the water.

Sharks migrating to the shallow area is a normal occurrence and should not be a cause for concern, a representative from the Pacifica-based California Department of Parks and Recreation said.
