The President of Israel is here to make a pitch to Silicon Valley elite that his country is great for business.
Israeli President and Nobel Laureate Shimon Peres will be spending the week here in the Bay Area.
Mr. Peres arrives Sunday night and leaves Thursday. He is expected to spend much of his time wooing business local leaders with the goal, according to experts, of deepening cooperation between Israel's and Silicon Valley's tech sector.
The company tour list for the week includes Facebook, IBM Almaden, the Launch Festival, and Google.
While at Facebook, he will meet with Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg and launch the official presidential Facebook page. Immediately after the launch, the President will hold a special interview at Facebook studios that will be broadcast online.
Cisco CEO John Chambers will be the official host of a Monday night dinner with other high powered members of the Silicon Valley elite. President Peres said he will make a pitch to the CEOs to increase investments and expand research and development centers in Israel.
On Tuesday, Mr. Peres will speak at San Francisco’s largest synagogue, Temple Emanu-El. Thousands of people are expected to be in the audience for the 7:30 p.m. event.
It is the first visit by a sitting Israeli President to this area ever.
Before coming to San Francisco, Peres was in Washington, D.C.
During that portion of his United States visit he learned that he will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It is America's highest civilian honor. Pres. Barack Obama invited Peres back in the spring to receive his medal.
