Shooting of 17-Year-Old Boy in San Jose Gang Related: Police

A 17-year-old boy remains hospitalized after he was shot in the face and back on U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said Friday that the shooting was gang-related.

The boy was shot twice around 6:45 p.m. in the highway's northbound lanes near Story Road, CHP Officer Ross Lee said. Northbound lanes of the highway were shut down for hours during the police investigation.

According to Officer Ryan Fifield the victim, who is from San Jose, is in a stable condition, and is expected to survive.

The shooting was "not a random act," Fifield said. "It was gang violence."

Police are working to identifying the gang members.

Information about the suspect or suspect vehicle was not available Friday morning.

The boy was taken to Regional Medical Center, where he remained this morning for treatment.
