Shots were fired on west bound I-80 in Pinole on Sunday, causing a complete shutdown of the highway's westbound lanes after a woman who had a flat tire pulled off to the side of the road, the California Highway Patrol said.

Sgt. Ken Martin said while the woman stopped near Appian Way about 10:15 p.m., someone came by and fired at least two rounds, maybe more, striking her car and another car. A man was struck in the arm and he was taken to John Muir Medical Center. The woman went to the hospital in her own car.

There have been other shootings along this stretch of highway, but Martin said there is no reason to believe that they are connected.

The driver who fired the shots is still at large.
