Six Bay Area High Schools Among Top 100 in the Nation: Newsweek Report

Newsweek released their annual ranking of the top 500 high schools in the country on Thursday, and this year, six high schools from the Bay Area are in the top 100.

Monta Vista High School in Cupertino was the top among the Bay Area high schools, coming in at number 18, with a graduation and college attendance rate of 98 percent. Lynbrook High School of San Jose was number 29, and Cupertino High School was close behind at number 35.

The ranking determined the public high schools that best prepare students for college based on factors such as SAT scores, enrollment in AP courses, graduation rate and college enrollment rate. Each high school was then given a “college readiness” number. Monta Vista’s college readiness number was 90.9, Lynbrook’s was 88.4 and Cupertino’s number was 87.

Last year, five Bay Area schools were in the top 100 ranking, with Monta Vista and Lynbrook in the top 50.
