Six Border Collies Found in Merced Dumpster, Taken to San Francisco SPCA

Six Border Collie puppies are recovering after they were found by a hair salon worker who was taking out the trash and spotted their wriggling bodies in an abandoned in a Merced Dumpster.

The black-and-white puppies, all from the same litter, are being treated in the veterinary offices of the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, according to the group's Facebook page.

SPCA spokeswoman Krista Maloney told the San Francisco Chronicle the treatment of the puppies "incredibly cruel.''

She said the 4-month-old puppies appear to be healthy. The agency is asking for donations to cover vaccines and other expenses.
