Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Former Naval Base

A small plane in distress Thursday afternoon made an emergency landing on a runway at the former Alameda Naval Air Station, according to the Alameda Fire Department.

The call from the distressed Cessna 172 carrying two passengers came in about 4:45 p.m., and Alameda firefighters responded to the scene, Capt. Jim Colburn said.

No injuries or damage were reported. The plane, which was bound for Oakland International Airport, was forced to land due to weather, Colburn said.

The Naval Air Station closed about 19 years ago.

No further details were available.
